1 DAY WRITERS’ RETREAT | HELENA FOX
-
In this atmospheric immersive walking & writing workshop we’ll explore how ‘being in the moment’, in the natural landscape can open up pathways of creative inspiration, and get words moving!
We’ll start the day in the Seastrand, with coffee, refreshments and introductions- a chance to feel at home in our unique base for the day. There is no wifi and we recommend you leave laptops at home, bring an old fashioned notepad and pen and escape the world of technology to truly hone in on the landscape and your sensory responses to it.
After ‘foraging for words’ and other games and exercises during a seaside walk, you’ll take these ingredients as inspiration for starting a new idea back at the Seastrand- be it short story, spoken word or dialogue for a play. After a delicious lunch, of course.
Suitable for all writers including first timers!
-
What’s Included-
A whole day of dedicated writing instruction, guidance and immersive experiences created specifically for this retreat by professional writer, Helena Fox.
Refreshments, vegetarian lunch and afternoon cake.
Sole use of the Seastrand which includes a roof terrace with uninterrupted direct views of the coast; and sheltered ‘nook’ area.
Please check our ‘accessibility’ statements for access, facilities and location details.

1 DAY WRITERS’ RETREAT | CREATIVE WRITING
-
Come. Spend a day writing on our roof terrace. Bring your project. Start a project. Sit, gaze and intend to write something... There will be lots of cake, a lovely lunch and a bunch of like minded people with the intent to get stuff done!
Helena Fox will be your host and as a professional writer, will be on hand for any guidance; whilst Tess will keep you fed and watered with lovely cakes and a veggie lunch to enjoy together.
There'll be no awkward ice-breakers or reading of works- this is a space to enjoy working independently with supportive and encouraging people around you.
WHO IS THIS DAY FOR?
Writers!
Writers with projects to complete..
Writers with an idea they’d like to explore..
Sea gazers who would like to be fed and watered with a vague idea they might write something down..
In short, EVERYONE!
WHAT HAPPENS?
When you arrive you’ll be warmly greeted by Tess (Seastrand Owner) and Helena (your facilitator for the day).
Refreshments and pastries will settle you into your morning writing session. A break for lunch and chat (if you fancy) will follow before you jump back into writing.
Mid afternoon, we’ll stop for cake!
You’ll have a lovely day writing, feeling supported and nurtured in a relaxing environment.
There isn’t wifi at the Seastrand so we would encourage you to embrace the unique setting of the venue- overlooking the coast. Why not work off-line or bring out your treasured pens and notebooks.
Nestle in and enjoy a whole day of getting stuff done and getting your words down on the paper.

1 DAY ARTISTS’ RETREAT | ANY MEDIUM
-
We have the most wonderful views here at the Seastrand. Our roof terrace looks out over Scarborough's South Bay beach and coastline. The sea can look like a never ending lily pond or be massive with waves (like the picture).
In any case, it's a wonderful spot for plein air painting, drawing or sculpting. Whatever your discipline and whatever stage you're at, why not come along for a dedicated day of creating art. The cakes and lunch will be lovely too.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
Anyone who would love a dedicated plein air position overlooking the sea to create their art.
Professional, amateur or beginner- all are very warmly welcomed. Bring your equipment and just get painting, drawing or whatever you do in a supportive and fun environment.
You’ll be fed and watered throughout the day with a delicious vegetarian lunch to enjoy together.
